A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

I am passionate and dedicated to standing up for our residents. I show up every day to be your voice on the council and work to resolve issues in the city. I am the first to roll up my sleeves to tackle big issues and come prepared at every meeting to deliver results for Centennial residents and families. I will bring that same commitment as Mayor to create a responsive and efficient Centennial.

I moved to unincorporated Arapahoe County in 1992, where I currently live in what is now Centennial’s District 4.

In 2000, city founders organized a campaign to incorporate the new city of Centennial. Aggressive annexation from several surrounding communities was eroding our tax base. Creating a new city protected the revenues we needed to maintain police and essential services without a sharp increase in taxes. I helped with circulating petitions. My parents taught me early on to share and give to charity, and that lesson is still a driving force in my life. I helped create and run a weekly computer lab for the kids at the Salvation Army’s Lambuth Family Center.

For many years, I recorded textbooks for the blind and dyslexic at Learning Ally.

I help with local Boy Scout troops at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch. My kayak and I are part of water safety teams for various local triathlons, such as the annual Tri-for-the-Cure fundraiser at Cherry Creek Reservoir. I volunteer at Wings Over the Rockies, including the Centennial Airport location called Exploration of Flight, where I run several flight simulators.

Volunteering as a Victim Advocate with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences. Receiving a call at 4 AM to assist a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or death is far from easy. You provide support for someone going through the worst day of their life. It provides a close-up view of what our Arapahoe County Sheriff deputies face regularly.

Nutritious and flavorful meals are essential for a healthy senior lifestyle. Regular hot meals can mean living at home instead of relocating to an assisted living facility. I am on the Board of Directors for Nourish – Meals on Wheels. We deliver over 200,000 tasty meals to seniors and homebound adults every year.
